Actually I take that back on the Oreilly book.  Looks like it just got a New Third Edition.  I heartilly recommend it.  It doesn’t teach you how to make things beautiful.  Rather it focuses on teaching you how CSS actually functions and what you would do to create what you have in mind.  Best money I’ve ever spent on a tech book.

With Chris - Zeldmans Designing with web standards was a ground breaking book several years ago and is still the basis of everything you should be considering now. CSS on its own is like bangers without mash, ice cream without a flake etc. Once you understand why you should be using CSs everything else drops into place.

As for how to do it CSS there are plenty of good resources at different levels - I have most of them. best so far is- Dan Cederholm Web Standard solutions, Budd, Moll Collison CSS mastery and Eric Meyer on CSS - anything from New Riders is worth a punt.

There’s a new edition of Zeldman’s DWWS out now. I think it’s the green (the original was orange). It’s a great and inspirational book that I think is a must-read before moving onto other standards-based books. IMO, of course.

You will not go wrong with CSS MASTERY or BEGINNING CSS WED DEVELOPMENT.

If it has the name Cederholm on it, then you should also probably buy those as well, clear, concise and easy to understand.

There is always something new to learn.

I just ordered CSS Mastery. Thanks for all the suggestions. Once I’m done with that book I may order another one from the suggestions provided.
