    Hi,

I was wondering what you use most with EE. What are the favourite modules, plugins etc?
What are the most best 3rd party commercial add-ons to EE?

By this way even i might find something really good to use and buy 😊
So bring on your favorite things in EE!

    Cheers:

What no “wahoos” or “greeeeaaat” replies here? There must be plenty of plugins, extensions or what so ever what are really usable, stable and so on. So pls share your “yiiihaas” here, thanks 😊

You should never install modules, extensions, or plugins simply because someone else likes them. Is there particular functionality or features you are after?

Well those are a fairly comprehensive list of “what is out there” as far as third-party add-ons go, which is what you asked. =)  Again, if you have a particular feature or function you want and would like to discuss a particular solution, then I think you’d get much better responses.

Most add-ons do pretty specific things - they’re more about fixing annoyances than blowing minds - so that’s why not a lot of excited responses for you. I’m not aware of one or two that everybody uses, as is the case with some other CMS who shall remain nameless. Does that mean EE is just awesome and there’s nothing that could be added to it? EE developers lazy or unsophisticated? Something like that.

Anyway, back to the actual point… My favorite 3rd party thing? This lovely theme for that ugly old control panel- http://31three.com/weblog/archive/expressionengine_control_panel_theme/
    Yiiiiihaaaaa. <—where I come from, that’s pronounced YEE-haw.

In regards to that theme - you could just update to 1.6, the 1.6 default theme is based on 31three.

I feel oh so behind the times. Upgrading is on that long to-do list which I am avoiding with great success at the moment. So, nevermind!

Does EllisLab ever choose to incorporate as standard any user submitted plugins and extensions that address shortcomings in EE as opposed to adding functionality?

The latter I can understand as it keeps EE lean and mean!

To date we have not included any third-party add-ons with the base application download, no.  We do not have an official policy to that effect, but typically if something has enough of a broad need so as to be appropriate for including in the download by default, it’s best handled as a first-party feature.  That way there is no question as to code ownership, quality, security, or who provides support.

Most of the time, though, third-party add-ons cover a specific need, and even if they are popular and cover the need well, we’d rather encourage their independent distribution and support of the add-on than always assimilate their hard work.  Some companies have in fact built successful businesses around this, and that’s an area of the ExpressionEngine cottage industry that we’d like to encourage to grow.

Best WIKI templates? Are there any commercial packs around? Is $50 too much if asking some company to do one for me? 😊 :p
