On my not for profit web site I have a separate sub domain that I use for trying out new ideas before going live with them. If I purchase EE I would like to continue with this, and in addition use the test sub domain for checking out new EE releases before implementing them on the live site.
My reading of the licensing terms is that as this would require two installations, albeit on the same site, this would require two licenses. Is this correct?
I can’t use the “old” method of multiple sites as my hosting service has open_basedir restrictions in force, and I’m reluctant to pay for the MSM in addition to a base licence.
Any suggestions?
What do other users do about checking out new releases before implementation. Do they trust Ellis Labs’ no doubt thorough testing? After a lifetime of working in IT I know that “the only software with no bugs in it is software that nobody uses any more”.
