Just to clarify the licensing of EE & MSM.

We build public web sites for our clients using expression engine and host them on our server. In some cases the client will be able to update/add content. We charge them for the build and hosting of the site.

Do we need a separate commercial EE license for each web site in addition to an MSM license?

I’d go as far as to say you need a separate commercial license for every client. Even with the MSM, all sites of the network must belong to one person/entity. So, if a client has different sites for, say, various sub-divisions of his company, the MSM will work fine. If its unrelated sites for different clients, you must use separate, licensed, installs.

    Hi, Matthew -

With the MSM, you must be the owner of all the sites hosted under the MSM, you may not use it as a hosting service; so yes, you would need a full license, and separate installation, for each of those clients.
