Status Access Restriction Not Sticking

I’ve got users reporting that their status changing settings aren’t sticking (e.g. changing an entry’s status from closed to open doesn’t work). While trying to track down the problem, I noticed that the status access restriction settings aren’t sticking either. For instance, when I set the “Can Access Status” to No on a particular member group, and hit submit, it immediately defaults back to Yes.

    Any thoughts/ideas?

Do you have the status group assigned to your weblog? That would be the first thing to check.

Also, what version and build of EE are you on?

Yes. The weblog in question does have the status group assigned—it’s the default group (just Open/Closed), but it’s assigned.

    We’re on 1.6, build 20070627.

The authors that are attempting to change the status, are all of these authors checked as authors in their My Accounts area?

    Not sure what you mean.

The authors are all a part of a member group that does have posting and editing privileges for the weblog. Do they also need to be listed in the “multi-author” list?

Yes, they do need to be in the multi-author list, Sean.  Try that and let us know if it helps?

    Nope. Still doesn’t work.

Sean, when you are setting the Status access permissions, are you selecting “Edit” on your existing statuses?  Setting “yes” or “no” on the main page, without creating a new status, will have no effect, and may be what you are seeing by it not “sticking”.  The author validation is actually separate entirely, but this validation is new to 1.6, and there were some issues with both on early builds, so no harm done by Lisa having you check that.  You might want to update to the latest build, however, as there was an additional tweak to author validation.  Back to topic though: status access, and proper member group permissions set for individual statuses.

No, I was actually trying from the main statuses page—but why wouldn’t that work?

In any case, I double-checked that the individual statuses had appropriate member group access privileges, and they did.

No, I was actually trying from the main statuses page—but why wouldn’t that work?

Because the setting is per status - not global for the status group.

In any case, I double-checked that the individual statuses had appropriate member group access privileges, and they did.

Can you go ahead and update to the latest build to make sure your files have all the necessary fixes in place?  Also, are these entries being editing in the Publish section of the control panel?  And do you have any extensions installed?

What have you done since last week?  What build are you running, and have you verified the member groups have permissions for the individual statuses within the custom status group assigned to the weblog(s) they are using?

I did verify the member group had the appropriate permissions (both for the individual statuses and for the weblog). I’m currently updating the EE install to the latest build—it was 20070708.

    Any other ideas?

The other two questions are still relevant: Are these entries being editing in the Publish section of the control panel?  And do you have any extensions installed?
