    Hi there,

Is there a way to hide all subcategories in control panel when publishing/editing entries?

I have a big category list: dozens of main categories, and for each main category, there are a few to a dozen subcategories. Here comes the problem: when publishing or editing entries, after clicking the “Category” tab, I get a long list of categories, and to scroll down to find one categories from hundreds of categories is really a pain.

I wonder if there is a plug-in/extension to either:

    1) Hide all subcategories. I can double click the main category to expand it and choose a subcategory

    2) Have two drop-down lists, one for main category and one for subcategory. I can choose a main category and the subcategory list will change correspondingly.

If there is no available solution, I have to modify the CP page myself. Can anyone suggest me which file I shall modify?

    Thanks,

To answer at least the last question…
You’d need an extension. In cp.publish.php there is a hook named ‘publish_form_category_display’. That allows you to completely rewrite the categories-menu.
