I have been using EE for a couple years. I personally think EE is way better than WordPress but much more people use WordPress. Is it just because WP is free?

(From)“Good to Great”—That’s my hope for EE! 😉

I agree with you editessay on the quality of EE,

I use both Wordpress and expression engine.
As I remember Wordpress was free long before ee_core came out.
Another reason for the success of Wordpress is the larger variety of ready made
high quality templates that are very easy to change. That reduces the setup
time for a good looking weblog to a minimum.

I think that EE wasn’t focusing on the mass market of bloggers (at least not
in the first years). Wordpress did.

Useless to enumerate the list of advantages of ee over Wordpress especially
    for developers and web designers.
One condition though to capture a larger market is IMHO:
    - More ready made high quality site and forum templates (by ee or third party)

My thinking is Wordpress is a simple, ready made, qiuck deploy blogging tool whereas EE is a more of a content management “system” that allows you to “develop” pretty much any type of site, including a blog.
For those just wanting a no-fuss blogging tool that looks fairly decent, Wordpress is easy. For those that want/need morefunctionality or a unique style,  EE is the tool of choice.
    They serve two different markets.
