Could you let us know the best way to get a single site out of MSM? We have a development environment where we develop sites and we would like to export a site to our live environment. Obviously things will change on the live site so doing a straight DB export/import will not work. I am pretty sure this functionality does not exist within EE but could you point us at some resources that might help. Do you have an up-to-date DB schema we could refer to try and extract the information from the DB?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers

There are a couple of exporting options- the wiki has some advice on using MT format to import/export entries and there’s a third party plugin- feedgrab for RSS importing and another one for CSV importing.  I’m not sure how they’ll handle the MSM bits, but they’re definitely worth a look.

See how close the above options get you- if we need to dig into the database structure after that, we can.

Thanks for your response. I have had a look and it goes some way to achieving what we would like. The main problem is that the site has to be set-up initially. Ideally we would like to be able to push button and release the site. We have a release system already which we can release the base files with but it would be good to be able to do the same with the db entries. We have enough in house expertise to do this(I think) but we would need more info on the db. I guess this could potentially be a module which if we managed to build might be quite handy for everyone.

It would make for a very sweet module- be able to export weblogs/contents/templates at will.  Hm- actually, the multisite manager does almost exactly that when it creates ‘duplicates’.  Not quite exactly, but a riff on that code might be the way to go.  Create a csv- then use the existing plugin to import it?  Keep us up to date with how she goes!
