In case some haven’t seen it, there’s a Windows only app called Texter that might make editing EE templates in the browser a little easier/quicker:

Windows only: Text substitution app Texter saves you countless keystrokes by replacing abbreviations with commonly used phrases you define.

Basically a snippet system, similar (though not as powerful) as the snippets found in Textmate or e Text Editor.

I’ve always used AsUType for this - and TypeIt4Me on OSX.  This kind of tool can be a huge, huge time-saver.

Lisa, those apps look pretty good—more full-featured, for sure. And pricier.

I’ve come to realize I’m a shareware addict. Where do I draw the line? There’s a little voice in my head (that sounds an awful lot like Dory from “Finding Nemo”) who sings “Just keep buying, just keep buying” all day long.  Must ... fight ... it ...

    😉

When an app can save you, literally, up to 3 hours a day in typing?  That’s how much value I get from these types of programs.  But look at my job, Eric. *grins*

I’m using a Firefox Addon named It’s All Text!.
It allows you to edit the content of any <textarea> with your favorite text-editor. So small windows, tab-indenting, syntax-highlighting, autocompletion and all the other stuff is not really a problem if your editor supports it. At least under Windows it runs fine.

I’m actually typing this very post using UltraEdit 😉

I use that Addon, too. Mostly for WordPress blogging on Windows. Quite handy. I use it with e Text Editor.

I had to stop using Texter. It messed with the space bar in Photoshop and in games. I also couldn’t get variables to work in Script mode. But the price was right… :(

David Pogue has an article in the New York Times about macro tools. He likes iKey for Mac and Macro Express for Windows—$30 and $40, respectively.
