Hi, I’m looking at creating a site driven by Expression Engine, but want to use an external shopping system ( http://www.xsilva.com/ ) to sell products.

Before I get too deep into the project, I want to know how easy it is to integrate a 3rd Party Shopping System with Expression Engine. By this I primarily mean including products from the shopping system on the homepage of the site which is filled with Expression Engine content.

A brief overview of the homepage structure…

    ee_header
    ee_news
    3rdparty_shopping_products
    ee_blog
    ee_footer

The system I’m looking to integrate is written in PHP, so I’m thinking a php include might work?

Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

I’m going to zip you over to ‘How to’ as it’s a bit of a better fit for this type of question.  That said- a php include- or even javascript- might be a good option.  Though sometimes classes clash.  If it holds the info in a mysql database?  I’d install the cart in the same db as EE- and then use the query module to pull out the product info.  To me, that would be the easiest way- gives you all the flexibility of EE on the design end of things.  But- it depends a bit on what you want to do.

Thanks Robin. I haven’t installed this 3rd Party system yet. But you’re right, might be easier installing this in the same database and using the query module to display the items.

    Thanks!

Would be interested to hear how you get on. Although xsilva seems more suited to bricks and mortar stores it has a lot of useful back end functions that most ecommerce solutions lack.
