I’m new to EE and I’m trying to determine the best logical structure for setting up the following site I’ve designed:

    http://63.147.126.13/hyatt_weber/rd2/case_study_charcoal.html

From my limited knowledge of EE, I would imagine that I’ll set up templates for each unique section of content (About Us, Expertise, etc), and then set up weblogs for each of those sections as well. Some of the sections will just be multiple pages (case studies, for example) whereas others will have subsections (About Us).

Basically, my question is: is multiple weblogs/templates the way to handle this, or should I be using catagories for some of this? I’m a bit unsure how catagories would work, but is this something for which they would be appropriate?

    Any thoughts?

I’m pretty new to EE as well but have played with it enough to give you some pointers.

I would suggest making at least 2 weblogs, the main weblog could cover your home page and misc pages (about, contact, privacy etc) - for this you’d need your index template for your home page, a template to show your misc page info, and a template for your contact form.

Your case studies would be a separate weblog with a separate set of templates, again an index template for your main casestudies page, and another for displaying each case study.

Of course that’s only one way to do it. You could have a template group for each page/area, this would be useful if you had totally different layouts on different pages. The only use for categories that I can see from your example would be to categorise your case studies.

No doubt some regular EE’ers will be along to give you the best advice!

    Thanks, that is helpful!

But I’m still a bit unsure how I would handle subsections? For example, if the about section has 5-6 subpages (some of which will have their own subsections), wouldn’t those need to be categories of an ‘about’ weblog?

Yes that would be an example of where categories would come into use. What I would do is create a template set called “about”, inside this template group you would have an index template which lists all your sub pages + extra info, then one template to show a sub page.

That makes sense. I’ll give it a shot and see how it pans out.

    Thanks!
