Hello, I was wondering if ExpressionEngine can create a site like this.

Fresheezy.com

Would a similar layout be easy to do. I have not looked at the template system yet. I am proficient in both HTML & CSS and learning JavaScript currently. Is creating a template something I could do with no PHP skills?

If you look at that website (Fresheezy.com) under the ‘Gallery’ tab at the top there is a filter search on the left sidebar. Would something like that be easy or difficult to do in EE?

There is also the items listed on each theme page on Fresheezy.com. Such as the description, column, and license. As well as a thumbnail view and live preview. Could I maybe get a quick overview on how easy or difficult it would be to add a new theme and fill out such information?

Also, if I was to branch out from themes and offer Widgets for blogs would I be able to do that. Like have a new tab at the top for ‘Widgets’ and have its own search filter and page info (description, license, etc…).

All of that in mind if I was to the design myself would there need to be any custom work done on the website.

I have tried Joomla! and Wordpress and I don’t feel either was what I was looking for.

Last question (which is probably stupid) is can EE be run on a .FM domain?

The layout isn’t a problem at all, as far as I can tell.  You can filter searches - there are two main ways to do it.  Either via dynamic parameters or by passin those sorts in segments.  I Prefer the segment approach as you can retain pagination doin that, whereas with dynamic parameters you can not retain pagination.  You may need a third party extension for this called “Custom fields in weblog entries” by Mark Huot, to have those filtering by columns, etc.  The sorts and others are builtin.  The extension already exists so that should not be a problem.

Description, column, license etc would all be custom fields - EE can have unlimited custom fields, very easy to setup then call in the templates, so this is no problem.

Yes, you would probably want to use a different weblog for widgets - think of weblogs as data containers, they can store whatever data you want with categories and custom fields specific to them or shared with other weblogs.

A .fm extension? Sure, why not? It all depends on your host, EE doesn’t care about your domain =)

I would recommend having a look at the trial options to see what you think.  But absolutely EE can handle a site like you want, quite easily. =)
