I used to enjoy these forums, because I learned a lot. But, since the Pro network was split off (and I can imagine why it was), there is little reason to follow the threads here. At the left, it says I’m a newbie, and it’s true I haven’t posted many times, mostly becuase my questions were already answered, but I’m hardly a newbie to EE. So, should I continue reading the posts of real newbies in order to learn more about EE, php etc.? The fact is that I don’t think I’ve had a real insight to EE since the split-off took place…

    Hi, Yvonne—

I’m not quite following your question or concern.  I find the forums fascinating and I learn a lot about EE from what others do it with it - which is why I started using these forums in the first place.

People in the pro network are not necessarily the most expert users of ExpressionEngine nor are they the most prolific posters in the forum. The number of pro network users are relatively low compared to the rest of the community and many pro developers are not actually in the pro network.

There certainly is no downturn of posts caused by the pro network forums.  There may be a seasonal downturn for the forums in general though.

Also, I have seen people who are “real newbies” who have a better grasp of EE than old school users.  Remember that EE is still a PHP application rather than some god-like deity. Some of the developers crossing over from the CodeIgniter community are really sharp with this stuff.

    Quite so. I still do.

But, since the Pro network was split off (and I can imagine why it was), there is little reason to follow the threads here.

That is, I am sorry, nonsense. In the Pro Network Subforum we talk about things like invoicing, project management, things like that. All the EE related stuff is definitely kept “outside”, as it were.

At the left, it says I’m a newbie, and it’s true I haven’t posted many times, mostly becuase my questions were already answered, but I’m hardly a newbie to EE.

Well, if you post a few more times you’ll be “junior member” in no time. It’s the nature of forums, that seniority can only be measured in number of posts or time since signing up.

The fact is that I don’t think I’ve had a real insight to EE since the split-off took place…

There really was no split off, believe me.

Are we talking about the same forums? The release of 1.6 brought an upturn if anything.

    Hi Lisa and John,

I don’t know, maybe it’s me who has gone into a stale period…

Statistically, the forums have all been much busier after giving the Pro Net users their own forum, and there’s really no correlation—it’s just busier all around.  The things they have been using their private forum for are much more business related than EE related, and a large number of them are still very prolific posters in the community forums.

I guess I noticed the tech support forums more than anything.  During the winter we seemed crazy busy and then we seemed to be getting a bit of a breather towards the time I left.  I was thinkings summers might be a little more slack.  Certainly 1.6 put an end to any idea of a seasonal downturn though.  He probably was not referring to support forums though.
