Hello
As we programmers usually use pcs more than 12 hours a day (I somedays work like 18 hours), I’d like to know which type of monitor suits better. Given that some people say that LCD monitors are not to that high use.
What is your experience?

I find LCDs to be much easier on the eyes—By their construction—CRTs shoot light rays at you through the glass screen, where LCDs simply backlight a color panel. LCDs also don’t have the problem of refresh rate flicker. With a CRT, I can easily detect the flicker (especially in whites) on a CRT. However, on a LCD, pixels are only changed when necessary - so there is really no such thing as a “refresh rate” per say…video cards all treat them as having a refresh rate of 60 Hz, which is typically their lowest setting. If you can go LCD—definitely do it (besides—they are way prettier 😊 )

LCD, absolutely. Like slyno1324, I find the lack of flicker makes them a lot easier to look at over a long period of time. I always turn the brightness on mine down as far as I can while keep tweaking the contrast until I get the LCD as dull as possible with acceptable colour reproduction. I find this is the most comfortable setup to look at for long periods of time, but if you’re doing a lot of graphic design/photo work it won’t be great because you’ll loose some colour fidelity. If you’re mostly coding (like me) this setup works very well.
If you can afford it, get two or whatever monitor you choose, the productivity gains from two monitors are huge. LCD’s are good for dual head systems because you can place them right next to each other without interfering with each other.
I found the combination of flickering CRTs and fourescent lighting (which are also flickering) results in a lot of eye strain. Since I switched to LCD, it’s mostly gone, and I haven’t looked back.

LCD - I have a 22 inch LG and it is such an improvement over my 8 yr old Trinitron. Eye strain has always been common with that CRT - as well as lines in the screen (and flicker)...

For a programmer or someone working with text, LCD all the way - the only reason to use a CRT these days is if you need absolute perfect color reproduction (for isntance where I work all the guys that design for print magazines still use CRT’s).

Are CRT’s even sold anymore 😊 I rarely ever see them in stores or on online.
