    Hi,

I am currently evaluating Expression Engine for use on upcoming projects. One of the things that I am concerned about is the usability of the cms in relation to entering weblog posts. Although there is some help for basic formatting, such as bold, italic etc, and a HTML library, it still requires users to have a bit of HTML knowledge in order to format the post.

Do you feel that this is down to training the users, or do you think users should have a rich text editor and code view seperated, so they don’t have to be exposed to any html, such as the solution in wordpress. I guess if you need to have consistency in your site you cshould teach your users when to use h1, h2, h3 etc.

    Thoughts???

    I use the FCKeditor Extension.

On a basic level it gives you a simple WYSIWYG editor.

It has a good feature where you can specify styles in a style dropdown menu. It is well worth going through the docs and understanding it.

I’ve found that it works for non-technical clients well.

I also use the FCKeditor Extension, depending on the client.

For example, right now we’re coding a band website where most of the entires will be blog style news posts and tour dates - they don’t need an editor. Other clients, such as corporate sites, have a lot of file uploads and formatting - they get the FCKeditor. I cut down the default feature set to just the things they’ll actually need, though, to avoid weird code popping up on the site.

    Thanks,

I have tried installing this, as well as TinyMCS, but can’t get either to work..

I put the two files in the appropriate places, and enabled it in the admin options, as well as clear the cache. Any ideas why it doesnt appear when i go to the publish/edit sections of the cms?

Is it a limitation with the free version?

Did you double-click in the text area to active FCKeditor?

Got it working now. Didnt realise you had to download the actual files from the FCK editor site as well as the extension files!

Also I had to rename jsfckstyles.xml to fckeditor.jsfckstyles.xml and rename the folder jseditor to fckeditor.jseditor for some reason, but seems to work.

    Thanks for your help

Also don’t forget options such as Markdown which gives authors the ability for advanced formatting options without having to know HTML.

Took a long while to figure out the double-click trick.

Now when I do, I get this:

    Not Found

The requested URL /fckeditor/editor/fckeditor.html was not found on this server.

    Any ideas?
