The way I read the docs, it seems I can upgrade from EE 1.4.2 to 1.6 in one step. But should I? Is there any benefit or best practice recommendation that suggests upgrading first to 1.5 and then to 1.6?

The update from a previous version in the docs works through all versions: update.php will walk through the process, giving you a link for each upgrade.

So the best practice is to backup your files and database, and proceed with those directions as per the docs. =)

Thanks, Lisa. That looked to be the case but I just wanted to be sure I wasn’t overlooking something critical. 😉

Nope, not at all.  But I do want to reiterate to backup. =) The one time you don’t backup’ll be the time you need it 😉
