Table display in templates

    I’m having a hell of a time trying to get a basic html table to display in the <div> I’m placing the table code into. For some reason it jumps out of the entire div and displays to the side.

    Do I need to ensure a setting is right somewhere like “Allow HTML”? The odd thing is that the table displays, just not where I put it. And it doesn’t seem to matter what the table’s width is set to.

    Hey Kevin - see if this kb entry helps out at all.

    Thanks for the quick reply, Lisa.

    Not sure if that one applies here because I’m actually just trying to insert the table directly into a template.

    What’s weird is that I can put in the <table> tags and the <tr> tags with no problem, but introducing a <td> makes it jump out of its container.

    Aha, I thought it was in an entry, sorry about that.

    Do you have a link to where this can be seen?  Without seeing it, it’s really impossible to diagnose.

    It would help to give you the link, wouldn’t it?

    You can see it here.

    Hm, looks like a perfectly cromulent table.

    Hi Kevin,

    EDIT - IGNORE FROM HERE…
    I think you need to look at your css code a bit more as it could be laid out slightly better as nothing is actually within a true container holding the whole page together. Not a major complaint but would be better all round.
    EDIT - TO HERE!!! 😊

    For now though to fix your problem you need this code instead :

    #grid {
        clear: left;
        width: 790px;
        text-align: left;
    }

    If you don’t have the clear: left; code on the grid div then it will just follow on directly after the banner and so push over to the left instead of sitting underneath it as you need it to do.

    Hope that helps.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    That’s excellent, Mark. Thanks.

    And thanks, too, for the general CSS tip. I would have thought that the “wrapper” div acted as a container for the whole page since everything is displayed inside that.

    Are you talking about something else?

    Hi Kevin,

    Oops sorry I meant to delete part of that post where I babbled on about the layout. All is perfectly fine with the way you have done it and I was just reading through the code very hurriedly to find a solution for you so I apologize for that.

    Absolutely nothing wrong with the way you did it so please ignore me!! 😊

    Glad it’s all working for you now though.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Thanks, All. I’m just happy the solution was so simple this time.

    Me too, Kevin!  It definitely helped to have Mark pop in here - my CSS troubleshooting is not quite as good as my EE troubleshooting. =)

    I must say that I feel absolutely honored to hear what you said Lisa.

    I have to say that you are allowed out of your mightily impressive 19529 or so posts to not always be able to do everything! 😊

    For anyone wondering what I am on about then I must impress the fact that Lisa is a Goddess of a Moderator and will always step in to help out anyone, absolutely fantastic!

    Just glad I could help someone else out though. I have had many many people, Lisa definitely included, help me out with problems here and there and I think this community is just great because once people have learnt things they then go on to help out others. I have too often seen on other sites people just asking for help and then getting the answer and not hanging around any more. Not very nice indeed!

    Kevin, hope it all goes to plan.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    This community is amazing for many reasons - but that reason, Mark, is definitely one of them.  =)

    Thank you for the compliments, again. =)
