While waiting for EE 2, I have a client that wants to switch from Flash to CMS, but also wants to be able (in autumn I think) to let his clients order products. It doesn’t have to be a full commerce system yet, however that could be something on the long run (2008/9).

What they should be able to do is to order products, without having to pay them with a creditcard, it just should result in a orderlist that can be mailed (or sent to a database) to the shop.

I already did a reservation system using freeform, maybe it could be used to make multiple reservations, yet I wouldn’t know how to do this over different pages in a session. With Freeform you can do a lot as long as it’s within one page that you can submit. It’s the cart where I get stuck.

Now I have seen squirrelcart but I’m hesitant to step into a different CMS, it took me some time to get to know EE and would like to use it’s flexibility to keep the design standard high and use flash elements with XML.

So is there any way I can do this, while staying inside EE? I’d prefer to use the EE entries as shopping articles.

No one with a brilliant idea, or a clue? Or just sit and wait?

Have you tried using related entries? (like one weblog for carts and a related weblog for cart_items)
Also instead of only copying the item id from the shop_items, rather copy the item_info and
price (at moment of purchase) because your shop_items may change (like pricing, color-availability etc).
    -
Another aproach may be just saving cart_items and on checkout set a cart_id on all open items
    for that user.
    -
These are just some ideas for an aproach, hope it helps you out.

    Hi goeminnek,

Do you mean a module that is for Expression Engine? If so then I would really appreciate it if you could possibly let me know about it too?

    Best wishes,

yes a module for expression engine we are working on it now. I don’t know the result yet just drop me a pm and ill keep you posted.
The idea is that you can define products by using custom fields and categories. It will be like creating weblogs but then products and it will use the same members as are already in the system.

small note: depending on the quality and usaublity this will be freeware or we will ask a (small)fee for it.

Charge a nominal fee for it and then use the funds to further develop the product. I dont think anyone here would fault you for this especially if it help motivate you to build on to the system.

On, july 5th it was said: “next monday”.
Sorry to be a bit cynical but there are some very
promising things announced in the forums but
then turn out to be vaporware or they tend to be
    (indefinitely) postponed…
