Sorry to make you answer the same questions over and over, but I couldn’t find exactly the information I wanted in the archives/KB/wiki/elsewhere.

The Simple Commerce module - what exactly does it provide? Just a slight change to adding/editing items in the admin panel, and automatic links from product listings to the PayPal site? Or does it include a shopping cart/basket that sits on your own site as well?

If the former, has anyone built a Shopping Cart Module yet?

    TIA 😊

    Hi, Buddy!

It really is very simple in that it just makes interfacing with Paypal easier - it gives you a central location to store a price and sales price, as well as a lot of very handy email templates, both for admin notification and purchaser notification.

There is a full commerce module in development - but no feature list or ETA available.  If you wanted to see how Simple Commerce works you might try the hosted demo which you can find linked here.

Thanks, Lisa. Presumably if I wanted to write my own module to implement a shopping cart it is as easy as writing an additional library class in Code Igniter is?

Buddy, I don’t program so I can’t speak to that, unfortunately.  You might like to look at our development docs to get an idea of how to write modules, extensions, and plugins for EE.

Lisa, who do we have to bribe to get an ETA on the full shopping cart solution? Would make a lot of people happier. We’re not even asking for an exact release a date, just a ball park range, a guess even… something!

There is no ETA - so there is no bribery to get an ETA because one does not exist.  See is there an ExpressionEngine roadmap?. =)
