    Hello EE,
I am seriously thinking about using EE as the basis for my future websites i am selling. I don’t know if i will buy the licenses myself or if i should make accounts for all the customers individually. they’re probably not really into the system and expect me/us to do support the complete CMS… How does this relate to the licenses and volume- or referral-licensing? Is there a difference if i buy the licenses or of i make different accounts? All in short… If i want to put EE in the core of making websites, what are my options?

It depends. I generally buy licenses on behalf of my clients, then develop the sites for them. I only transfer the license if they ask me to or when our relationship ends. Even so, I retain a developer credit, counting towards my volume licensing. In pracical terms it does not matter who nominally “owns” the license, unless your clients want to show up here on the forums.

I always have the client buy the license…I walk them through the process. You can still get the volume discount credit if you let the Ellis Labs team know. I just find it a lot cleaner that way. But, either way works.

Thanks for the info… Could someone from Ellislab explain how i would do this (ie. transfer a license from my account to a client or how the volume-licensing works when i ask clients to buy a license)
