Category Home Pages?

I’m just putting together our site I haven’t been able to figure out how to do this or find it here.

    We’re using 1.6 and EEPages.

I would like to have a “home page” for each second level category.

So Home > Admissions would be a category and a page. When I tried to build this I ended up with Home > Admissions > Admissions.

    See the result here: http://rackham.pmhclients.com/index.php/admissions

    How can I build this?

Also how do I get the links in the breadcrumb to reflect the URIs for the pages?

    Thank you.

    Hi, Marc!

I’m not really following how you have this set-up, or how Pages is playing into this, etc.  Can you describe in a bit more detail what you have setup and how you want it to display?  Perhaps we can go from there.

    Hi Lisa,

Most of our site is to be “static” pages.

I have a page at this URI /academic_information/ and a page at this URI /academic_information/programs_of_study/

The page at /academic_information/ is categorized in the “Home” category.

The page at /academic_information/programs_of_study/ is categorized in “Home/Academic Information”

I would like to build breadcrumb navigation for this structure. When I use this code in the template I get navigation from the page to the category below.

    {categories}<a href="http://{path=weblog/category}">{category_name}</a> > {/categories} {title}

I was able to do this using Mark Huot’s Pages module and it could be done with Tome but I’d like to use EEPages.

I’m not sure if this explains it any better. I’m just learning Expression Engine so there are many gaps in what I know.

After living with Pages for a few days I guess my first clarifying question is:

What are my options for creating breadcrumb navigation within a hierarchy of pages built using the new Pages module?

    More background of our project:

Our site has nearly 1000 “static” pages with a strong hierarchy and some sections of the site nest five levels deep. We would like to avoid having to hard code breadcrumbs since we lose the CMS advantage.

We have been using the Tome module which gave us the hierarchy and breadcrumbs but we are reaching a point where it’s not scaling well with the number of levels/pages. (The URLs are enormous!)

So my next, related, clarifying question is:

What directions can I go in to build a large site with a strong hierarchy of mostly “static” pages? How could I rethink the way we’re building the content?
