currently, i am changing the names of all my embedded templates to the new naming scheme to make them hidden. my embedded templates are stored under the template group /_extras.

is there any benefit at all of changing the group name from _extras to .extras? will this make the index page of this “hidden” template group hidden as well so that it will not redirect to /_extras/index if a nonsense URL is entered?

I’m not quite following - but you can’t hide a template group, just a template.  You could make the index unviewable to all and redirect it to an appropriate page….. Check out this page for discussion on that.

thanks lisa, i have already read that thread before posting my question. interestingly, that was the trick i had been using before 1.6.

my question is just simply on whether there is any “potential” benefit not documented in the EEDoc by renaming the template group in addition to the template?

Just obscurity, nothing specific to EE that I can think of, P.J. =)
