are great! but why o why wasn’t this implemented in the gallery as well? I’m probably biased towards the gallery because it is the single most important aspect of my website, but I really feel it is being neglected in the push towards EE 2.0.

with all the brand new functionalities in every release I wonder why certain very basic functionalities for the gallery are being forgotten. things like category pagination and a real batch entries system or a sort by parameter for the gallery category tag to name a few.

Currently, the gallery can only reference categories by ID, so URL-titles were not needed.  If you would like changes to that functionality, I’d be happy to move this to the feature request forum for you.

I’m not following you here. http://www.mysite.com/gallery/gallery_name beats http://www.mysite.com/gallery/C54 any day, right? isn’t this the sole reason url titles were introduced?

no thanks, I would like to keep it parked right here to get some sort of idea what’s in store for the gallery in the future.

Well, if you have a look at the docs or use the tags, you’ll note they always output a category ID to link with, ie: C23, if you attempt to visit a gallery category using the Category name in the URL - you will not get category specific results.

You are right that some would prefer to be able to use the category name rather than the ID - but as far as I can see, that’s not currently available.  It’s certainly possible that I missed a variable or parameter though, it’s happened before.

As far as finding out what is in store for the gallery - we don’t give out feature hints or ETAs for future versions - so leaving it here won’t get you that information. =)

I know the real batch uploading feature has already been requested many times over, but I’d like to add my voice behind this as well.

well that’s exactly what I mean lisa, if it just got implemented for weblogs, why not do the same for the gallery while they were at it?

hehe, I know, and I can live with that 😊 I just want some reasurement that the gallery and it’s long time running issues will not be forgotten about!

The feature of using the category name instead of the category ID has been there for a few years now in the weblogs.  It was just expanded to have a url-title and custom fields.

The gallery, on the other hand, doesn’t yet have this capability, so it would take a bit more time - and there’s only so much you can get into a single version, you know? =)

well that is 100% exactly what I need gallery categories to have too, an url title and custom fields 😊

(I’ll make this feature request tomorrow!)

I know, and don’t get me wrong, I love where EE is going, I just hope the gallery won’t be forgotten.

Any chance of getting this feature? I really, really would love category url titles for the photo gallery module as well. The “C1” URLs are just really ugly and provide no context.
