I upgraded to 1.6..no problems there.  However, I had thought since the CP got a nice new default theme, the member templates would, too.  But nope, it’s the same old blue and white thing. Sorry, but I absolutely hate it.  I’ve tried to customize the member templates myself, and found it to be an exhausting and exasperating experience.

I’d like my member templates to look like the new default CP theme.  Any suggestions?  Has anyone done this without pulling all their hair out?

    TIA.

Doesn’t look good.  Oh, well.  Never hurts to ask.

Yes I was really hoping for this too, not to mention a good forum theme. I’m not complaining as I love 1.6 and appreciate all the hard work. But for the next release I’d put new templates at the top of my feature requests.

These new templates don’t have to be amazing but they should be easy to customize and not garish. The markup should use proper semantic coding methods and not be full of presentational class names. The forum themes are my biggest bug bare in EE, no offence but they’re hideous to look at and a pain to customize. It just doesn’t fit the market of new webstandards conscious, busy professionals that EE has been adopted by. They make EE feel very old and outdated.

Please EllisLab get Jesse Bennett-Chamberlain on the job, I know he’ll do a good job.

I had exactly the same idea as Coldfiress. Would like to see the new template for the user section and the search results!

I’m probably being waaaaay too simplistic here, but how about a global stylesheet for the CP and the member templates?  Wouldn’t that make life easier?  😝

You guys are really creating a relationship where there is none - nor should there be.  The member profile templates have their own CSS and templates, entirely separate from the CP styling.  If you want to customize the member templates, depending on how much you want to customize, it’s a simple matter of modifying the global templates and CSS, you don’t have to dig into 95% of those templates.

Anyhow, just to retierate, the control panel is not at all connected to the member profile themes - they are 100% totally separate.  You can make them look alike but that is up to you.

Sorry Lisa: you’re kinda missing the point, I think. I don’t believe that anyone is under the impression that the member and CP templates are in any way linked, nor that they should be. If I am following this thread correctly, this was simply a request from a member to all other members for revision of the current member templates, to say goodbye to the old purple and white and welcome a new and updated version. The CP has had an overhaul and looks fantastic; I guess it would just be nice for the other purple and white defaults to have a revision, too.

Also, I’m fairly sure that the above guys know that changing the member template doesn’t involve dipping into templates all over the place, though it’s good of you to clear that up. I’d say that suggesting a shared CSS file was just another idea of making those parts of the site match.

To those curious as to why only the CP got a makeover while the other templates stayed the same, it wasn’t the dev’s change per se. You can thank Jesse of 31Three for that (though I believe it’s been fiddled with). If you’d like to see new templates, I’m afraid you’ll have to handle that yourselves. The EE devs seem to be focusing on building an effing awesome program over a really decent one with a nice-looking member template.

Funny. I had always wanted them to match my actual site design, not the control panel that only I see. But either way… an easy customization would be cool.

Er. Post edited so that it actually makes some sense:

Yes, same, but if it came to choosing between a purple theme and a new theme similar to the one that graces the CP, I’d go for the latter.

Been on my list for almost ever 😉

Being in the design/branding biz, I want anything the customer/visitor sees to match. Yes, you can change the CSS to match up the colors/etc. but if you really want it all to match your design/layout you are in for one hell of a ride. I did it once and it took longer to redo the Member templates than the entire rest of the site.

And yes, I do understand why there are so many little member template fragments. Not quite sure I understand why one tag starts in one and ends in another though, that makes it somewhat difficult to follow and easy to really hose things up.

Edit-Add: And I do understand why it hasn’t been changed, one hell of a lot of work.

can you give me a hint: about how long it takes to make it to its own, unique look?

I must calculate my time soon 😊
