Anyone know a way to trigger the browse to download and image rather then open it (without putting the image in a zip or anything)?

    Hi there textdriven,

There are a couple of ways that I know of. You can write the code yourself to force the download on the user but this involves writing header instructions which are very very iffy between browsers and so don’t always work consistently.

Two scripts that I know of are very capable though. The first is a free one called Download Sentinel. This allows you to link to a file via a script which then serves the file to the end user forcing a download. There is an additional step so it isn’t just click on link and the download starts but for free it is a pretty flexible script and very powerful.

The other solution that I use all the while on sites is LinkLok URL. This is an excellent script and will hide all your downloads so that no one can just download as they see fit. You can even set it so that links created using it are IP locked so that one user couldn’t pass a link to someone else and get them downloading the file!!

There are a few modifications needed on the script to enable it to work with EE as a php include file but I got in touch with the developer a while back and he implemented these changes for me and I had a word with him about others using the changes and I’m pretty sure that if you were to buy the script then it would be okay for me to send the changed file version over to you.

There are many many more of these types of scripts available on the internet but in my mind these two are the best.

    Hope this helps.

    Best wishes,

Thank you mark that is very helpful. I actually already using LinkLok for a music download site I am making. I’m using the version for the Mals’e cart. That’s very interesting about the integration, did the developer charge you anything for that fix? I might ask him myself.

Is it complex? It would be great to see how it was done.

    Thanks.

    Hiya,

Adrian logged in to a test site that I put online using EE so that he could find out what the problems were. He fixed the file on my FTP server and now it all works fine. Pretty much needed a few of the variables to be made global so that it would work within EE.

If you get in touch with him then I’m pretty sure he has kept the file so would be able to send on the changes to you. I’m using it on a music download site also!

Not complex to use at all because once the file is included in EE it is really easy to get EE to create the links for you and everything just works!!

Great mix of two great products really.

    Hope this all helps.

    Good luck with it all.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
