After updating to 1.6, the css for my Admin Control Panel has disappeared. To make matters worse, the Control Panel Settings (CP Home > Admin > System Preferences > Control Panel Settings) doesn’t have a drop-down selection for Default Control Panel Theme.

All of my database tables report OK when repaired and optimized.

    Yuck.

Make sure the privileges for your cp_themes folder is readable.

Paul posted that a few minutes ago. See if it helps.

    Yup, the directory is world-readable.

Previously, which CP theme were you using? Does it still exist?

Okay, here’s a weird additional data point:

Moving the cp_themes directory to the system directory as per the knowledge base article clears up the problem.

But this wasn’t an issue with 1.5.x. What gives?

I replaced the themes directory; the old Control Panel is no longer the default.

mfraase, is the issue resolved, or are you saying that you don’t have any CP?

In CP -> Admin -> General Configuration is your “Theme Folder Path” preference correct?  There have been reports that this preference might have been broken for people on Windows servers using paths like (C:\whatever\yo\), and I am going to investigate.

Typically, if EE cannot find the theme folder, it will then look inside the system folder automatically, which is why this is working for you now.

Yes, somehow the 1.6 update process managed to munge my theme folder path preference. Repairing that seems to have fixed the problem. That the update process would munge the setting is alarming, however (I’m wondering what else got munged).

    Thanks.

Seems to only happen with backslashes are in configuration options, which would include this…and also the CAPTCHA path and the paths for member photo, avatars, and private message uploading.

What is great is that single and double quotes are not a problem at all, which is what we always test for during development.  PHP and backslashes with serialized arrays though, that seems to be the problem.  How truly annoying.

FYI… same happens with Discussion Forum attachments path. Thanks.
    EDIT: Note fix is coming
