    Maybe I’m just dumb…

But is there a way to combine sites into the multiple site manager?  I have 4 sites.  I installed the MSM on one of them.  Now I want to add and combine the others into the first one.

    Can I do that?

Connie, were these other sites considered addon domains before 1.6? Or separate EE sites?

They were separate EE sites, Sue.  Different URLs/Domains, etc.

The functionality of the MSM is to use the same database for multiple sites. You’d have to export content and import it in again. As well as making your other domains sub or addon domains.

In my case I use cPanel for many of my sites. I then create addon domains from inside cPanel.

So it’s not meant to merge previously working separate sites.

Sue - could you elaborate on your comment, “You’d have to export content and import it in again”?

I have a number of people that would take advantage of the MSM but doing so will require the exporting of data (weblogs, templates, categories, articles) from their current EE install on one hosting provider and appending that data to an MSM enabled EE site at another host.

I’ve reviewed the forums and KB entires and found lots of good information about moving servers, etc - but nothing specific to combining sites.

IMDAdmin, one way you can get your content into EE is via the Movable Type Import Utility

You can write code to export your entries to Movable type, and them bring them into the other version of EE.

I’ve not done that, but I know there’s a thread out there on how to do so.

As the new release gets used more frequently, no doubt there will be better documentation on doing this.
