Localization settings confusion in conjunction with weblog entry date???

I’m having trouble figuring out how to sync my weblog entry dates so they display on the proper date as intended.

For clarification, I have confirmed with my host that my localization settings should be set to UTC-5 (Eastern Time), but because of Daylight Savings they have the server set to UTC-4. I am now set to UTC-5 (Eastern Time) with Daylight Savings enabled; I would assume this to be the same, but is it?

In my last two test entries, from an SAEF I’ve established for this project, which were entered for 2007/06/25 12:01 AM and 2007/06/25 12:05 AM respectively, EE has made the entries for one day, and one hour earlier; 2007/06/24 11:01 AM and 2007/06/24 11:05 AM.

My account localization setting is also set to UTC-5 (Eastern Time)with Daylight Saving Time enabled.

How can I get these to sync so entries appear when expected?

    Thanks.

To confuse the issue, I just tested again to confirm (entry: 2007/06/22 12:01 AM), appears in the CP as an entry on 2007/06/21 11:01PM but is searched by URL (.../test/Events_byDay/2007/06/21/) does not exist. The entry does, though, show up under the intended date .../test/Events_byDay/2007/06/22/.

    I’m lost.

hothousegraphics, have you updated to 1.6 yet? Is that an option? There was at least one date/time stamp bug fixed in the new release.

    Hi Sue,

I have not yet updated. Being somewhat inexperienced with EE still, let me ask you, how difficult is it to update without erasing my existing work. Is there info explaining how to go about updating an install without overwriting content?

    Thanks

    Updating is fairly easy.

    Update Installation

Just make sure you don’t overwrite your path.php or config.php. I usually backup my database first, and then update. I’ve updated 4 sites so far today. 😊

I’ll give this a go is a bit and post my test results with the new update.

Is what I’m experiencing sound familiar to you?

We dealt with something similar a few days ago. Let’s get you updated and keep troubleshooting.

    Updated to 1.6.

    All files good to go.

Entered a test event entry for 2007/06/28/12:01AM via my site SAEF.

Resulting record in CP shows date as:
    2007/06/27/11:01PM.
Viewing my small calendar shows no events for 2007/06/28. The date 2007/06/27 is highlighted. When selected, I’m sent to a page with no content and whose URL is

    <a href="http://www.hothousegraphix.com/ClientAccess/CMS/index.php/test/Events_byDay/2007/06/27/">http://www.hothousegraphix.com/ClientAccess/CMS/index.php/test/Events_byDay/2007/06/27/</a>

If I check the following URL:

    <a href="http://www.hothousegraphix.com/ClientAccess/CMS/index.php/test/Events_byDay/2007/06/28/">http://www.hothousegraphix.com/ClientAccess/CMS/index.php/test/Events_byDay/2007/06/28/</a>

The entry made is displayed however the dynamic date displays the day prior (27).

if you are viewing and notice the time, PLEASE DISREGARD as that is resulting from an entry to a custom entry field, not the EE entry_date tag.

Additionally, when viewing the Big calendar, the test entry displays on 2007/06/27.

Also, the site localization settings are still as follows UTC - 5:00 with daylight savings enabled. and the Admin account settings follow the same.

In messing around, it seems like if I simply disable the sites Daylight Savings Time option, entries place where they are intended.

I would assume I want that feature enabled though?

I’m going to admit that I’m not that familiar with server setups, but the host using UTC -4 to account for daylight savings seems a bit shady to me.  Then again, that could be the normal way of handling things just doesn’t seem like it should be.

But it could certainly be causing your problems, especially if disabling that makes things work.  An offset might also work - I will look into this a bit more for you (localization makes me go cross-eyed, but so do time-zones without code =) ) but for now you do have a viable workaround.
