Hi There, I have what seems to be the same problem, but it has come after upgrading to 1.6. I also posted in How To because I used the search form and couldn’t find anything on the problem.. so please delete that topic as my issue is the same as this.

    Sorry, having a bad day…

So, I updated as per the instructions, this is the second site I have updated, the first ran with no problems. I did as the update instructions say, the site has no added plugins, modules or modified code. But now when I access the main page and the admin, it is blank.

I have checked the path.php and the config.php files, and they all seem to be fine. The site is hosted with pmhosting. I checked all the db tables and all the templates and data seems to be there still.

    Thanks

    Patrick

How many weblogs are you using?

not sure exactly, several… 10 maybe? I exported the data from the db, and did a clean install on my localhost and the site appeared in all its glory, so I haven’t lost any data, it just isnt appearing online..

I’m thinking of deleting everything and starting with a fresh install, then just uploading the sql, but I thought this might be a bit extreme? Wanted to see first if there was a simple fix.

When I first ran the update, I copied all the files/folders across as per update instructions, and then ran the update.php page. It threw an error saying there was an unexpected }. Thinking this was a bit strange because the upgrade I did before it went fine, I uploaded the file again (update.php) to make sure I had uploaded the right one. I noticed that the file size on the server was not the same as the new one. So I think my ftp program was playing up. So I used a different ftp client to delete the old one then upload the new one, then ran it again. This time there was no errors, and everything seemed fine, it told me it was successful, and did the whole optimize tables thing.

Thats when I looked and nothing would display… not sure if that info has anything to do with it, but remembered it earlier.

Wonder if ftp buggered anything else up?  We definitely need an error to spot what’s goofing- which is hopefully going to end up being a matter of replacing a file or two that got corrupted.  Try Lisa’s link to forcing error reporting- see if we can get any kind of error message to show- instead of the blank page.

(Oh- and there was an odd bug if you only had a single weblog- hence the question re: the number.)

I’m thinking this will be an easy fix- if we can get an error message.

ahha! an error you want? an error you shall receive :D

Parse error: parse error, unexpected '*' in /www/username/public_html/eesys/core/core.regex.php on line 1429

I didn’t know that was possible.. Does that make anything clearer? I amended the index.php page in the system dir to get that.

*note* changing the error_reporting in the root dir index.php still returns a blank page…

ok, i see the problem! there is no 1429 in the 1.6 file, there is in the file on my server… Obviously there has been an error with the ftp, is there a set group of files I should upload again? Or should it be just this one? Or could be any? :s

Mod Edit: Removed your username for security reasons.

Hm- yep.  OK- here’s what I’d do to start.  FTP in- delete system/cp and system/core folders and then re-upload those folders with clean copies from the latest download.

May find a few more goofy files got in- but we can hit those if we need to.

(I’ll usually delete manually before ftp’ing the new ones up, as I’ve had this happen a time or two as well- even with ftp set to delete first!)

Robin’s got you here, but I just wanted to step in and note that I split the thread - the issues are completely different even if the symptoms are the same. =)

haha wondered where it had gone when i refreshed the page!

yep, no matter how much I delete the file on my ftp program, when I upload it, it is the wrong filesize again. If I delete then upload using enginehosting control panel then it works, but thats quite a lot of files to upload one at a time! So trying a different computer to see if that is better… has a different ftp program on it… will report back.

Thanks for the help so far.

ok, well that has had a positive effect on both the front and back end. 😊

If you could have a look here, you will see heaps of code at the beginning of the page. The same thing is happening in the system cp too. I am assuming this is another file/folder thing, but not sure which one it could be. Any ideas?

    Thanks

Well you wanted something to display- now you got it!  Hm- it’s a bunch of unparsed php.  I suspect more corrupted files.  Pooter.

Let’s see- your on EngineHosting, right?  What are you using to ftp?

I have been using gFTP as I use linux, but seeing as that didnt work, I jumped onto vista and used aceFTP. I am just now re-uploading the lib, language, modules and utilities folders, because the same problem most likely exists with those folders too.

And it seems to have worked!! :D Will do some sanity checks, but seems good right now.😊 Thanks for your help with this, the error was the key as you thought :D

I know cross posting is bad, hence the above, I have just had a shocking day 😊 Getting better now at least. 😊 Everything seems to be fine now, thanks heaps for the help, really really appreciated. Loving 1.6 well done to everyone involved in making it happen. Especially the design, that is cool!

    Thanks again

Man, do I ever know how you feel. It’s happened to me a couple of times with upgrades. Usually it’s a ftp glitch for me. Enough to give you an ulcer sometimes.

😊 at least now I know what to look for, so that is good.. wondering if there is a better ftp program than gftp. aceFTP would be great but i cant find a linux version.
