    When I remove the Magpie plugin, I cannot log into the CP at all. I get the following error:

    —-
    Warning: Home::require(/home/.jeannie/edalzell/thedalzells.org/<cp location>/plugins/pi.magpie.php) [function.Home-require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/.jeannie/edalzell/thedalzells.org/<cp location>/cp/cp.home.php on line 1152

    Fatal error: Home::require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/.jeannie/edalzell/thedalzells.org/<cp location>/plugins/pi.magpie.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php’) in /home/.jeannie/edalzell/thedalzells.org/<cp location>/cp/cp.home.php on line 1152
    —-

    What is really interesting is that once I remove it, I can still click around in my CP just fine. It is only when I explicitly go to http://thedalzells.org/<cp location> that I get that error.

    Erin, the Magpie plugin is one of the included plugins by default because we utilize it within the application.  Namely, in this instance, it’s for the EllisLab news feed in the CP home page.  You’ll want to leave the Magpie (and other default plugins) plugin installed as the system assumes they are there.

    Incidentally, this is not new to 1.6 - we have counted on and used the Magpie plugin for, well, forever, I think.  The plugin manager has always used it to the best of my memory.

    Ah, OK then. Should I file a bug about being able to delete it?

    No, I mean, it’s still your choice, ultimately.  You can disable the news feed, and some people may not care about not seeing the available plugins.

    Fair enough. Is this mentioned in the documentation? What happens when I turn off the feed? Lastly, shouldn’t the plugin manager simply produce a proper error messsage?

    Yes, it could degrade a bit more gracefully, which is an easy thing to add.  Not sure you mean about “what happens when you turn off the feed?”  It doesn’t display for you anymore.

    Obviously. It won’t show the error then, is that what you’re saying? For the record, I have the plugin installed, and am not goign to change that.

    The new build of 1.6 I just uploaded to the download area of the store allows this to fail a bit more gracefully.

    Now, that’s what I call acceptable sort-of-feature-request turnover time. Thanks, now get some sleep guys. I just had my 8 hours, I am sure you need yours, too.

    I think I am the last one up, but I will be dropping like a fly very soon.
