    Hello folks,

I notice the blog is covering Expression Engine 2.8 topics.

When is the expected release date to non-testers?

If I upgrade my current license to the stable version, should I expect to pay another update fee 2.8. Back in the day, I recall you had one year of free updates.

The forum here continues to be buried in SPAM. I can understand the debs hard at work on 2.8, but isn’t this a poor reflection on ExpressionEngine. After all, it was always touted as high in security, yet the forum portion of EE that drives this community has been overrun by a bot.

    Last question related to Multi-site.
If I had say 40 basic EE sites, would I get a big performance hit by running EE in Multi-site mode?
I couldn’t buy separate licenses for each domain due to costs. Maintenance surely would be easy in multi-site mode.

    Thanks!!

    Soon. 😊

ExpressionEngine 2.8 will be a free upgrade for current ExpressionEngine 2.x license holders.

Sorry on the spam - we’re working hard on it, and our filters catch thousands of spam posts each month. We’re the first Google search result in many regions for “forums”, so we’re a bit of an extreme target. Rest assured, it’s unrelated to security, it’s a numbers game, and though posts still make it through the filters sometimes, we’re stopping 95%+ of it from ever making it to your screen.

If those sites are not all owned by the same entity, they do not qualify for the Multiple Site Manager and must each be powered by their own license and installation. The performance question is one that cannot really be answered without knowing about the type of traffic and current performance of each individual site, and the hosting environment. There is no inherent performance “hit” for using MSM, but as a crude example, two high traffic sites with heavy database usage on separate servers might require a beefier setup to handle the same traffic and database usage on a single server. That would be the case whether they were separate installs or on MSM, too.

Definitely looking forward for the 2.8 release. I can sympathize about the whole spam problem. One forum I run is severely overrun with it. We’ve recently implemented one of those visual association puzzles so that bots can’t register, but human spammers still get through. Half the battle, I guess. We’ve been thinking about implementing a waiting period before users can post (a couple of days or so) but that in itself has its downsides.
