Migrate an existing website (EE 2.6.1) to a new server. Followed the guide provided by EllisLab. Received the somewhat common error:

    An Error Was Encountered
Site Error: Unable to Load Site Preferences; No Preferences Found

After much troubleshooting and searching for solutions, I’m turning to the community. Here’s where I’m at.

    1. Verified all files/folders have proper permissions.
    2. I’ve run database connection test and my database.php file is connecting just fine.
    3. Old PHP version: 5.3.9, New PHP version: 5.3.3
    4. Old MySQL version: 5.0.95,  New MySQL version: 5.1.71

    Any other thoughts?

That sounds as if it can’t find your config.php file.

Check in /system/expressionengine/config and make sure config.php and database.php are there and contain the correct info

Thanks Rob. I neglected to mention that it was the very first thing I checked. Yes, both are there and updated with the correct info.

Ok are all system paths/URL’s correct?

Sorry for the delay, missed that there was a reply. Yes, all system paths are correct. The only thing I can see (though I know little about MySQL) is the difference in versions.

Attempting to start the migration process over and see if something was corrupted along the way.

After completely starting the migration process over, it appears that there may have been a corrupted file in the previous transfer. Using the same settings and steps previously used, the site is now functional.
