Searching for an entry on the “Search Entries” screen in the admin backend hangs (the indicator just spins). I just upgraded from 2.4.0 to 2.7.3 (also updated Matrix, Playa, and Wygwam to lastest versions) all using Updater.

Also if you try to search before the page fully loads you get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function xss_clean() in [ee-systemfolder]/expressionengine/controllers/cp/content_edit.php on line 234

Not sure if that’s related or not.

The site itself works fine and I can click on an entry to make edits, but with 4000+ entries finding the page to edit is nigh impossible without a functioning search.

I’ve cleared my browser cache a couple times and tried to clear database cache etc on EE, but haven’t had any luck getting the search function running again. Any help you could give would be great. Thanks

Searching led me to http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/209451/

Which didn’t have the exact answer but helped me realize that on line 233 of content_edit.php the code is $this->load->helper(‘search’); but xss_clean is in $this->load->helper(‘security’); added the security line and now it works.

Has this been submitted as a bug report? I have the same issue.
