Why even have a forum if it’s just going to sit, untended and clogged with endless spam? Not only is it damn near useless, it’s a very poor reflection on the quality of EllisLab’s work.

Hey Dylan,
I want to make it a point to thank you for reporting this kind of stuff when you see it. You’re always on top of it, and that’s huge. It’s very much appreciated. The EllisLab forums are a big target for spam because of the high traffic and the visibility of the brand name. I think you’d be shocked to see how much spam we’re able to stop before it gets through. This stuff you’re seeing is actually just the tiny trickle that manages to make it past several layers of spam prevention, and it’s usually because it’s actually submitted by real people behind a computer. (Yep, people are actually paid to do that.)
No single spam prevention method can do the job for a high-visibility site like this one, so we have to make use of several techniques and constantly tweak them. For the spam that does get through—and there will always be a small fraction that will—we just need your help in the remediation process. When you and others see a spammy post, just report it. That tips us off and we’ll swoop in to take care of it.
Thanks again for your help. It’s really appreciated!
Kevin

You shouldn’t just rely on your customers to hit the report links - take a glance at what’s been posted every so often. There’s spam from two weeks ago sitting around stinking up the place.

Certainly not implying it’s our users’ responsibility to find and report spam, just saying that it helps when you do!

I think EL should have someone go on every day just to clear out the spam. This used to be a valuable forum; now, no one posts here any more because of the spam and junk. Not good.
