search exclusion (-) not working in simple search form

When I put a search in on my site for the word
```
super
```
I get two results back.
Only one of those entries contains the word ‘Accounting’, yet a search for
```
super -Accounting
```
returns both entries again.
Is this a bug, or does exclusion syntax only work on the Advanced search form?

This is EE 2.7.2, using the native search features.
