How to stop CP timeouts completely

    Using 2.7.2

    I’ve tried everything that I know to remove/stop/eliminate or even extend the CP timeout and nothing is working. I’ve added the following hidden variables to the config.php file with no luck:

    $config[‘cp_session_ttl’] = 7200;
    $config[‘user_session_ttl’] = 7200;

    I’m using “cookies only” for my CP sessions, which simply adds “Auto log-in on future visits?” to the log-in page.This does nothing to keep me logged in and once the CP logs itself out, it’s back to square one. Also, when I do log back in, I’m forced to enter name and password twice.

    I’m using the latest Firefox. Yes, my cookies are enabled and are visible when I check. Security software is not stripping anything out. No blocking. The same behavior happens in IE10.

    I (it’s just me) don’t need the timeout feature at all - it’s getting very old having to refresh all the time.

    Thanks.

    One of my clients is experiencing being frequently returned back to the Dashboard page, when try to submit Entries.
    Kind of along the same lines perhaps as a timeout?

    What can be done?

    Hi IC360,

    Yes, I experience that behavior as well. I’ll be working on an entry and when I submit it, I’m back to the dashboard and have lost my work. I’ve now set the autosave to 60 seconds, but…

    Ditto here, started with 2.7.2. I have LastPass automatically log me in to the CP whenever the login screen appears in the code, so I’ve noticed that I can predict each time the session has timed-out and will kick me back to the CP Home screen, by when LastPass shows a “LastPass is logging you in…” overlay on top of whichever CP screen I’m at.

    This is a major issue IMO, leading to tremendous problems with data loss. Evidently it’s not global, though. Perhaps we can figure out a common cause in this thread?

    For my site, the first “unusual” things that come to mind are that I’m using the FocusLab EE Master Config setup. I also have the Cookie Settings -> Cookie Domain set to “.mydomain.com” (the other 2 fields are blank). The site has been upgraded version upon version from 2.5 or so.

    I just switched the CP Session Type from “Cookies Only” to “Cookies and session ID”, and I noticed that now, when I encounter a timeout and get logged back in with LastPass, I don’t get kicked back to the CP Home screen, but to wherever I expected to go in the first place. Minor improvement I guess… 😕

    I’m having this problem too: submitting an edit to an entry returns me to the dashboard and my work is lost, and extending user_session_ttl does nothing. Any help is much appreciated. Using 2.7.1.

    I’d like to add that the having to re-log in twice thing only happens to me after a prolonged period, like overnight. I only have to re-log in once if it’s been a few hours or so.

    I’ve got similar woes. But as the focus of this thread at least initially is on a session timeout as opposed to the redirect to CP home behaviour, I’ve opened a thread on the latter over at Stack Exchange: http://expressionengine.stackexchange.com/questions/17230/anyone-experiencing-submit-fail-and-redirect-to-cp-dashboard-home-ee-2-7-2

    It’s an XID issue/bug that is known to EL and slated to be corrected in the next release. A fix until then is posted:
