Apologies if this is a very noobish question, I am relatively new to EE (coming from WordPress) and have been trying to figure out how to do this.  Basically, what I need is a photo gallery with each image on a separate page with Next and Previous buttons linking them.  I have it set up right now just using Channel Fields to pull the images but then I realized this would only work if each entry had the same amount of images.  For example, say there are 9 images in the gallery, there would still be 10 actual pages if there were 10 image Channel Fields.

I hope all of that made sense.  Any help or pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

Hi Eric and welcome to EE 😊

First off, if you’re going to handle images, you might want to get Channel Images. It’s not free, but it’s a must-have for everything that has to do with EE and images. Read the description, look at the screenshots and decide for yourself.

    As to your problem:
Do you want 1 gallery with X images? Or X galleries with X images?

In case you only need 1 gallery, create a channel called Images. In that channel, create an entry for each image. In the template, just start by displaying entry 1 and use the Next/Previous tags for pagination.

In case you want more than 1 gallery, you’ll have to create a channel called Galleries as well. Inside that channel, create an entry per gallery and use Relationships to link any amount of images with it.

Feel free to ask if you don’t know how to do something I just wrote. :D

(With Channel Images, all this is not necessary.)

    Thank you for the reply!

I am looking for X galleries with X images.  All with (more than likely) a different amount of images.  I have looked into Channel Images before and like the looks of it but I am building this for a friend of mine as a favor and sort of a way to learn EE and I’m not sure he really wants to drop the money for that.

So, you’re saying to create a channel called Galleries and a channel called Images?  And link them with Relationships?  What I still be able to paginate them that way?  I am using Simple Pagination to paginate inside of each entry.

Thank you again for all your help!

Can’t say if Simple Pagination has a problem with that – I’ve never used it.

But yes, everything else will work the way its supposed to.
