    Hi everyone,

I have been using EE for quite some time now, +4 years, and have in general found most of the problems I have encountered have been reasonably easy to overcome.  I am now in a transition to a new web service, primarily to allow my time to be freed up from managing the EE site and content, and moving to a semi-dynamic site.

What this alternative does not offer is a members facility, which is a problem, as I offer a download of files which cannot be seen/accessed without a member account.  This all uses the standard members module, and simple controls to deny access to files without being logged in.

Since my new site does not have this functionality, I was wondering if the following is possible?

On my new site, I shall set up a link to a file, which actually points to a URL on my EE site, which will present a pop up for a username and password.  This allows for the checking of the user credentials, and if OK, I can then serve the file in question.

That is the part that worries me, that destination URL, if discovered, could be re-used if required.

Is there anything that would allow me better control over this?  So that the EE authentication is used to check the users, and then pass a URL to serve the file, but for this URL not to be replayable?

    Is this possible?

    Any thoughts appreciated.

Finally, I would personally stay with EE, since it offers a lot of flexibility, but what it does not provide is visual wysiwyg editing of templates and content.  I know EE is not based on that concept, but as I have little time to look after my EE site, I have to pass the management to other folks who are not comfortable with EE templating and editing.  Shame, but I would recommend EE everytime!!!

    Mark.
