    Hi,

We have a website running EE1. It recently went down because of increased traffic. (after functioning just fine for 4 years) We upped the hosting plan, that solved the issue, but I was ordered to look into the template structure to see if we can streamline memory usage.

Our templates take average 2.5MB to 5MB memory usage. I tested an empty template that took 2.5MB. I looked around on forums and most complains talked about 10, 20, 30MB memory usage. So I am feeling rather comfortable about our templates. But I really don’t know what to look for.

    1. I am wondering what’s the average memory usage by EE1?

    2. Is EE2 different/improved in this regard? What’s the average memory usage by EE2?

    3. And lastly is memory usage the culprit I am looking for? Parsing PHP is one thing. Accessing the database is another. How do I measure the impact of DB queries? What else I can look for to prevent the site from shutting down due to high traffic?

    Thanks,
    Luke
