This is my personal opinion but I liked the previous Expression Engine website allot more, it was way more focused on the product, a more professional corporate look and it promoted the software as a corporate great looking artwork used by allot of great websites. It was the website that sold me.

This new website has almost nothing on the product. Not even features, its all focused on EllisLab, not in the product not to mention this baby look design does not help it either to market is as a mature product.

I just find the new website design does not fit the product or products of Ellis Lab, the design is not bad for a child website, or gaming, or women cloth, etc, but I personally do not like it. I can´t hardly find product information anymore and all I care if actually the product, not the company or the people behind it, sorry but that is the truth. I tend to find more about the company and people if I like the product, except on this new website I can hardly find any information at all what the product does, what features it has, what problems can it solve, nothing.

Nothing wrong with promoting the company, since this is the domain ellislab.com but then please bring back the old website, for expression engine itself where there is only information about the product and where the content if focused on the product.

I think us CodeIgniter fans feel pretty much the same way. We liked our individual home (especially since the forums were separate and easier to find CI-related answers).

Not that anything is going to happen because of a couple of our opinions—clearly they thought about and worked on this for a long time. You’d assume there is a fairly good, rational decision behind it, even if we don’t agree.

Well, I think they wanted to consolidate all products under a single brand, the company brand. But personally I think this is a bad decision for a company that is known for its products. Now its not product focused anymore, but company focused, and people do not search Ellis Lab in Google, they search CodeIgniter or Expression Engine, since this are the products that made them what they are today. First thing people will do when they hit a page with this information is go away as they cannot find what they want or need, in this case content focused on the product.

Its confusing, and it frustrates users. If you don´t deliver what they search or want, they will drive away. This new website does an awful job at promoting their products, or keeping users interest in their products as well current users that know have to click 10 times to get to the same place they went before, like this forums just to mention one example….

Making so much focus on Buy and the Store, and the company is not going to drive them sales from new customers, since they need to first find out what the products does, how are others using it, features, download, demos, content, documentation, etc.

To centralize brands is ok, but not if you have to many products. In this case since everything is under one single domain I don´t know how they are going to keep focus in a particular product without taking away attention from other products, and I guess they want to promote all of them at the same time. You know what they say “Jack of all trades, master of none”

The re-designed site just blows. For a company that makes web building tools…that’s the best they could do?  “Join the Crowd” links to forums? Sure that’s obvious. And the massively huge, idiotic icons?

And then there is the paid support that they now charge up the ying yang for.

There is major mis-management in this company.

I must admit I wasn’t a fan of this ’ new look ’  Ellis Lab site. But I think it’s growing on me now the more I’ve frequented it. Still room for some improvement on certain CSS aspects, but I think it will be refined over the next 12 months or so.

I also do not like the new look. I have not been to the website in months and was shocked to see the new look. I was also shocked at the new price! Yikes! I like it better having a lower priced option for the full version of the program. Now the Core does not include Query. Really!

I need the Query part to do what I do for non-profits. My customers will not want to be charge the $300 it cost. Has EllisLab has become another premiere priced Apple like company? I left Apple and now buy Android. Why pay more to a puffed up company like Apple? I don’t want EllisLab to do the same, be the same as Apple.

Secondly, I do not care about who the people are behind the product. As other posters have said, we need more product info. The highlight of the website should be what you sell, not who you are.

Thirdly, I am not at all sure Core will do what I need it to do.It would be such a pain to have to migrate to another CMS.

Also, where is the upgrade info? What is the upgrade path for those using 1x? Is there still an upgrade fee? These are things I could not find on the website. Please remember, that I am lacking the hind sight EllisLab has in these matters, but not being psychic I do not know the answers to these questions.

The design is not much the problem, which is actually not refined. The problem is that is says nothing about their products.

The presentation is absolutely lacking and terribly made. If you know nothing about EE when you visit this website you still know nothing about EE which is quite a pity because there is so much to show…
