I have a site that was designed by a company and I am trying to figure a few things out since I have not worked with EE.

I was told that EE (My version is 1.7.1) does not have a built-in text/WYSIWYG editor for open text fields. I found that it does have an editor (feature was enabled in a test publish page), but I was told it is not a standard function and it will cost me extra money to deploy on open text field. In the past all CMS systems I have dealt with have had this standard, am I having a sheet pulled over my head?

Also why would a web developer use an older EE version? It was pushed to us as the latest and greatest CMS. Should I request an update to V.2.x.x or does it not gain me anything being just the content creator? (apologies if this is addressed in another post)

    Thanks for any insight!

Do not get discouraged, because as soon as you get your EE site(s) current and functioning, you’re team will be really delighted.  You’d have to check with Ellis sales for the upgrade pricing because upgrading is essential.  Many use the Rich Text Editor that comes with EE 2.5.5.  There is a vibrant ee community at expressionengine.stackexchange.com.  The community boards are no longer monitored by Ellis staff.
