So far i have not found a solution for one search page that will search through all channels and forum posts.

Does any one have any idea to point me in the right direction if possible?

Hi Mike,

I think, you can use “Associating Channel Entries with Forum Topics” of discussion forum and can get {forum_topic_id} within search result like http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/modules/channel/channel_entries.html#forum-topic-id
