As a 1 year user of Codeigniter I am truly dismayed at the new site.  First of all - the people who really made life worth living are a handful of super skilled volunteers. CroxNix and Insite as well as so many others come to mind. If you lose them, you have Basically lost the franchise for newbies who are the future of Codeigniter.  By removing their avatars and the number of messages they have posted you remove an easy to notice badge of skill and recognition.  A real backward step.

When I search the Codeigniter forums I really do not want to see a whole bunch of Expression Engine stuff - that is not why I am there.

Recently I have become very excited about including Expression Engine within my skill set and leaving Joomla / Wordpress behind. However, overnight you have increased the threshold of my joining by 400%.  From $99 for a developers licence into $400. This is a really bad move if you want to attract new developers.  You want to get their entry level as easy as possible - but then maybe you don’t want new developers. Maybe you just want to focus on large dev. shops.

The styling on the forums is really bad - specifically giving code the turquoise background - it makes it very hard to read.

Overall I think I am very disappointed with the direction and presentation of the program.

Amen.  I am finding, more and more, that it is hard to justify the ever increasing cost associated with ExpressionEngine, both new sites, upgrades and the newly suggested paid support.  I just have not seen an increase in benefit that matches the increase in cost.  It makes it VERY hard to justify EE to my clients anymore.  Ellis Lab, if you’re going to keep majorly increasing the cost of your product, you need to increase what’s being offered. A good start would be the upgrade and theming issues that customers have been bringing up for a long, long time.  Show us that you are going to make these increases worth it.  Right now, honestly, while I think EE is basically a good product, and one I’ve used and recommended in the past, looking at the path EE is headed, I’m not seeing anything but increased cost for the same product, with the same issues.
