We have a potential client that the “make or break” point is being able to have members in multiple groups.

The reason is not for any “security” reason, but for communicating to them. We thought of using the “Communicate” module as this would accomplish quite a bit, except…

They may have a customer that signs up for three of their programs. Think of these programs as member groups. The member would need to be in all three “programs” (aka, member groups). Obviously the Communicate module can send email to specific member groups, but there is no way to put the member into multiple groups.

Any ideas on how to accomplish this either natively or with a third-party add-on? The key is the ability to email the members.

    I found this: http://devot-ee.com/add-ons/member-categories

However, the Communicate module does not allow you to email “categories”... only actual member groups.

    Hi Jason,

I’m sorry for your extended wait! Thank you for your patience.

OK, this is a long-shot, and I don’t have all the pieces of the puzzle - but…

I think Zoo’s Visitor and Visitor Plus could bridge the multi-group gap.

Visitor takes Members into channels, while Plus let’s you relate those “member entries” together. My idea would be to use one channel for each “Member Group” and let Plus relate the members to multiple “groups-in-channels”. Now, the last piece is how to email them as a group…

Two options that might work are Firemail, a Control Panel approach, and Email-from-template, a template based approach.

There’s not a one-stop add-on to solve this, but you can build it a bit at a time.

    Cheers,
