I have a tricky channel tag problem I am trying to solve I have 2 blogs: Blog A and Blog B. They each have their own category groups. For Blog B, I want a channel tag that displays all of the posts of Blog B and posts from Blog A that have a specific category selected. How can I do that?

    Hello RedSeal,

    Sounds doable to me.

    Try this out.

    {exp:channel:entries channel="channelA|channelB" category="4|56"}

That will give you entries from both channels. Then the two categories you want to show, assuming the category is something like cats and in channel A that is category_id 4 and in channel B that is category_id 56.

    Does that make sense?

    Thank you,

Actually that wouldn’t quite work. The idea is that you would show category 4 for channelA, but any category for channelB. I can understand hardcoding the category for channelA, but it wouldn’t be possible for channelB since categories could be added at any time or it could have no categories selected at all.

In pseudo code it might look like this (I know this isn’t a valid channel parameter, but it explains what I am hoping to achieve):

    (channel="channelA" category="4") OR (channel="channelB")

    Hey RedSeal,

Yeah, that’s pushing the limits of the channel entries tag. I think you might be better off using the Query Module and crafting exactly what you need.

I have not used this Add-On but it looks like you could maybe use it to grab the categories after the fact. Worth looking into, but it is $5 so might not be a good fit.

    I hope this helps.

    Cheers,

    Hi RedSeal,

Not really? Is there something else I can do to help?

I can move this to the Community Help Forum if you would like, that would get a lot more eyes on it.

Please let me know what I can do so that I can be of help.

    Thanks,
