A few errors after upgrade 2.1.0 - 2.5.3

Hey, I have had a lot of problems with moving to new server and later upgrading my EE. Just a short background story. In order to get EE working on the new server I had to convert my database and all tables to UTF-8 (still some missing characters, but those I’ll replace manually). I’m worried that anything below could have to do with this.

These are the problems I have had after updating from 2.1.0 to 2.5.3.

    1. After installation was finished I got the following message:

    “An Error Was Encountered

Unable to load the requested language file: language/english/ip_to_nation_lang.php”

I don’t use IP to Nation, so I just went to the CP and uninstalled it (don’t know if I should be worried something more has gone wrong?)

    2. When I go to the start-page of my CP I had the following message:

“Your ExpressionEngine installation’s version (2.5.2) is not consistent with the reported version (2.5.3). Please update your installation of ExpressionEngine again.”

However, in my footer it says 2.5.3. I assume this could have to do with no (1.). I really don’t feel to reinstall again, as I have done that 3 times (every time take a lot of time) and the last 2 times I got that language file error that nobody seem to have been able to fix. If I go to the config file and change the “app number” from 252 to 253, the error message goes away. Should I worry about this. Or could I let it go?

    3. I had a weird PHP error when I tried to edit or create entries that involved the “File field”. But after synchronizing all my images in file manager the PHP error went away. However, now when I go to edit an entry containing a file in the file field, the thumbnail of the image is missing (instead of showing tumbnail + file name, it now shows file name + file name). It doesn’t seem to have any technical effect on the webpage as the images and files show as it should.

Other then these issues, everything seem to be working as it should.

    Thanks,
    Johan

Update: I fixed No 3. It was a typo in “File Upload Preferences”, in the “URL of Upload Directory” (can’t belive it was that simple..)

What remains, is if I should worry about no 1 and no 2?

    Hey there swedenfishing,

First, sorry to hear about all the trouble with the update. Does not sound fun.

So the config file gets written to as each update is completed. If the file did not get 253 written to it, then the update did not complete. That’s the bottom line. You may be able to operate just fine, but I cannot speak to future updates and the status of Add-Ons.

You might try running as is for a bit to see, but I think you will need to get the upgrade done again to sort out everything. You might even just try the update from 2.5.2 to 2.5.2 and see what happens after backing up your database that is. 😊

Please let me know your thoughts.

    Cheers,

Okey. What I just did was that I reuploaded just the installers folder (didn’t change anything else except clearing cache). Then I went to the install and it said I was running v 2.52. I pressed install, and 1 ms later it said I was now running 2.53 (no error message). I really don’t know if anything happened as it went so fast and all. Should I have re uploaded the whole system fiolder etc, or should I be on the safe side now when installer seemed to be happy?

I understand that you can’t tell me with 100% certanity, but just want advice on this.

    Hey Johan,

I think you may be good to go. But watch close, just to make sure. I would take a snapshot and save it off, just to have a point to come back to.

Again, so sorry this has been such an adventure.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can do.

    Cheers,
