I get the following error when i open weblog in EE - Could not create /var/www/vhosts/example.com/httpdocs/images/uploads/ : edit upload preferences

    Backstory
    - EE 1.7.3.. just upgraded from 1.7.0
    - MSM
    - nGen for handing of uploads
    - recently moved from one host to another

Our main site works fine, but any other subsite that connects to it gives the error above when editing or adding a weblog entry that contains that custom field. The subsites all work fine other than this.

    What i’ve checked:
    - File permissions all seem correct
    - When i click “edit upload preferences” all setting look correct

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello dagga,

    Thank you for your question.

Have you double checked that path for sure on this new server? Can you navigate there with no issues?

When you say that the permissions look correct, can you tell me what they are? Are they set on both images and uploads?

    Please let me know

    Thank you,

    Thanks Shane.

The paths are correct and all image directories are set to 777. What’s strange to me is that it works fine on the main site, but the subsites image upload is still an issue. All other path and rights related issues for the subsites are fine. The actual paths are the same as they were on the old server… var/www/vhosts/example.com

    I’m at a loss

My thoughts on this and maybe it will spur some thoughts from others:

    - I have no problems uploading images on the main site. This tells me that the rights are all correct on that domain.
    - The subsites get the “Could not create..” error. The image directory and sub directories are all set to 777. This tells me that the message is generated from somewhere else. Since we are using nGen for uploads, maybe it’s a rights issue with this?

    Another Update:

I set this up in a test environment and 777’d the entire httpdocs folder and below on both the main site and the subsite. Still having the issue.

    Hey there dagga,

    This is really strange.

Would it be okay if I log in? Is this a sub domain that I can access?

    Cheers,

This is fixed. My suspicion was that the sites were unable to talk to each other. I already had the open_basedir settings in place, but it turns out the vhost.conf file was corrupt. I replaced the file, committed, and restarted apache. All seems good now. Thanks for your help!
