    Hi,

I’m looking for a way to force EE not to show the “file rename” dialogue in the file upload process, but to change the filename e.g. add a number at the end, and to save it. I’ve looked through the user guide and all I found was the Safecracker File fieldtype. Isn’t there an other way, maybe some configuration of the normal file type?

The problem is, that we run a site with about 100 users, and the users upload files - the problem: all the files are saved in the same directory on the server. We now have about 6000 files in that directory, and now the “file exists” dialogue shows up quite often. Many users don’t carefully read the text in the dialogue and just click on the “save” button - so the overwrite files stored by other users.
Is there a possible build in solution for that problem?

    regards tim

    Hi Tim,

That certainly can be a pickle!

Now, we don’t have a setting in the File Field type or SafeCracker File that can allow for this. What I need to be able to help is bit more context around your use-case.

How are your users uploading files? Are the files part of a channel entry? Would something like Entry Directories give you a solution?

I look forward to hearing back!

    Cheers,
