    Latest EE.

When a channel entry has 1 or more comments and commenting is closed in the ee cp, I’m finding that the recent_comment_date field in exp_channel_titles is being set to 0. Wondered if you could confirm this please, as I think is should be unchanged.

    Best wishes
    Lee

Tested on 2 installs (latest version) and recent_comment_date is being set to 0. Makes orderby=”most_recent_comment” useless.

    Hi Lee,

Thanks for bringing this up! I went into some preliminary digging and we are doing something odd with recent_comment_date. What I need to know from you to get it completely sorted is where you are making the change?

Are you unchecking “Allow Comments” in the entry’s options or are you closing comments on the entry in the Comment Module CP?

I’m going to subscribe here for notification and get back to digging, but more info on the context would be great!

    Thanks!

    Hey Lee,

It’s a booger for sure. I’ve filed this bug report as a show-stopper. Should be fixed in an upcoming release.

I would like to warn you that my test indicated that the recent_comment_date was reset on *any* entry edit. It has nothing to actually do with enabling or disabling comments, so beware.

    Cheers,

Hi Dan, thanks for the extra info. If the next release isn’t imminent can I have a fix?

    Hey Lee,

I don’t have a fix, but commenting on the bug report will subscribe you and keep you up-to-date on when one is provided.

I know this suggestion is absurd, but the “fix” at the moment is to not edit an entry with comments 😕
