Using existing EE2 licences with Multi Site Manager

    Hi

I’m currently building a “Corporate site” and migrating 5 existing stand-alone ExpressionEngine microsites into a Multi Site Manager installation for one of my clients.

Since they already have licences for these 5 sites I imagined that I’d be able to simply re-use them, as they are the same sites (and will replace the current sites) after all. However, I have reached the point where I have built the corporate site and migrated 2 of the microsites and am about to migrate microsite number 3 but I find that I cannot add any more sites within MSM.

Looking at the MSM purchase page I see that I now have the option to buy additional site licences at $49.95 each but why do I need to purchase new licences at all if the sites I am moving in to the MSM installation already have full commercial licences? How can I add these existing licences to the MSM installation to allow me to migrate the existing microsites?

    Regards

    Pete,

MSM stores the number of sites that you are able to install in the files that you download and add to the installation. Therefore any time you need to add additional sites you have to redownload those files and upload them to your site. Unfortunately the license management in EE does not know that the sites you have already have licenses. So you are left with 2 scenarios. Send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and plead your case and see if the good folks in support will let you “redeem” one of your legit licenses for a couple more MSM licenses or purchase the necessary licenses for MSM and reuse the EE licenses on a different site.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi

Thanks, I figured I’d need to contact sales/support about this. I sincerely hope I don’t have to “plead my case” though as it seems perfectly reasonable to me to want to bring existing sites into an MSM installation.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.
